The National Center for Sex Statistics (NCSS) is a private-sector research organization based in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The NCSS provides people with authoritative, up-to-date quantitative-based knowledge about various aspects of sexual behavior in the United States. The NCSS publishes two annually updated reference books: • Sex Stats: Laying Out the Bare Facts about Sexual Behavior in America • LGBTQ USA: A Statistical Portrait of the LGBTQ Community in America Also, each year the NCSS publishes updated reports titled: • Detailed Estimates of the Size of the LGBTQ Population in the United States • Estimates of the Size of the LGBTQ Population by State and Region All of the books and reports are authored by Joseph D. Keefer, founder and director of the NCSS. Keefer, who specializes in studying the demography of sexuality, holds a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and B. A. and M. A. degrees from The Ohio State University. Keefer has been a university professor, a senior-level Congressional staff member, and chief lobbyist for an international trade association. He is a member of The Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality.
